Northern Lights CO2 transport and storage project.

Dec 2022

Sekal’s DrillTronics, Automated Drilling Control solution was deployed on the Transocean Enabler semi-submersible drilling rig to assist with successfully drilling two carbon injection wells in Q3 and Q4 2022. This was in support of the Northern Lights carbon transport and storage project, a joint venture created by Equinor, Shell, and TotalEnergies.

“We are proud to participate in this important carbon capture and storage project,” said Jarle Vaag, Chief Commercial Officer in Sekal. “Sekal’s solutions are leveraged to increase efficiency and to safeguard drilling wellbores which again reduces the CO2 footprint from drilling operations,“ he added.

The Northern Lights project is part of the full-scale Norwegian CCS project called “Longship”. This comprehensive project involves capturing CO2 from industrial sources and transporting liquid CO2 from industrial capture sites to an onshore terminal on the west coast of Norway. From there, the liquefied CO2 is transported by pipeline to a subsea storage site offshore in the North Sea, where it is permanently stored. https://norlights.com/
