Last week Sekal was announced as the winner of the 2020 Research and Innovation Award for Rogaland, Norway.

This prize is awarded for the 19th time, and is jointly funded by the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise Rogaland (NHO), Rogaland Research Foundation (Stiftelsen Rogalandsforskning), and the Rogaland County municipality (Rogaland Fylkeskommune).

The purpose of the award is to stimulate competence development, commercial research and regional business development. In the jury’s justification of the award it says that this year’s winner is a unique success in commercializing research. The background for the success is based on work done by NORCE and further developed by Sekal’s own R&D team. The software technology is now being widely used globally for digitizing the drilling process, which is resulting in safer and more effective wells. Also, from a sustainability point of view, the winner of the award is highly relevant, as their solutions are significantly reducing cost and emissions.

“This award is a true recognition of the Sekal team’s effort to be in the lead when it comes advanced modelling and autonomous drilling which is benefitting the global energy industry, and I am incredibly proud to receive this prize”, says CEO Atle Sonesen
